xxThe Oregon Academy of Science an affiliate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), founded in 1848. Forty-four of the forty-seven academies affiliated with AAAS form the National Association of Academies of Science (NAAS), which has its roots in an AAAS committee formed in 1927 to promote relations among the AAAS member academies. The NAAS is funded by allotments from its individual member academies to keep all academies informed of each other's activities and to promote junior and collegiate academies to encourage interest in science among today's youth.
